Testimonials

"I am an adult learner who has been taking music lessons from Rosalind for the past 5 years. Together we have played bagpipes, smallpipes, flutes and whistles, traditional Scots/Irish music, American folk music, even some jazz and rock. Rosalind is the most knowledgeable and competent musician I know, she challenges me at every session and helps me push beyond my limitations. I highly recommend Rosalind whether you need a teacher, piper, bassoonist, whistle player or literally anything related to making good music.”
Bill Ripley, Scottish smallpipes, whistle, flute
“I have had the enormous privilege of being Rosalind Buda’s student of the Scottish Smallpipes since 2020 to date. I am a long distance learner by Zoom. She has been a faithful, patient teacher since my beginner stages. Last year she advised me to seat with the advanced group during Cairdeas. Having a professional, multidisciplinary musician as my teacher has added a tremendous value to my learning, and her wonderful, pleasant and low key demeanor and wonderful sense of humor inspires me, not only as a teacher, but also as a trusted friend. She has been a true blessing to all of us who can proudly boast of having such a great mentor.”

Hector Robles, Scottish smallpipes

“Rosalind is a great bassoon teacher, one of the most knowledgeable and encouraging people I know. Rosalind was always able to push me to the next level, so I always went home with things to work on. For example, because I learned bassoon online, there were many things that I didn't learn right, and Rosalind had to teach me how to do those things correctly, such as the many weird fingerings on bassoon, or moving my finger to the right position for a half hole. Rosalind has helped me grow from a player who didn't hold the instrument correctly to getting into top spots in all state band and winning concerto competitions. Consistently able to provide for all of my bassoon needs, Rosalind is always willing to help. Not only is she very knowledgeable about bassoon, but she is so supportive and kind. After helping me prepare for the Hendersonville Concerto Competition, which took a lot of hard work on both of our parts, she was there when I performed with the orchestra, providing a great sense of comfort and stability. I’m grateful that I've been able to take lessons with Rosalind.”

William, High School bassoonist

“Rosalind is a lovely human as well as a talented piper. She is an excellent teacher, and her warm and caring personality makes her a joy to learn from. She is patient and kind, and finds ways to gently challenge students of all levels to perform at their best. Her playing is beautiful and tasteful, and she switches between several instruments, including bassoon, pipes, recorder, and whistle with ease. She often joins other musicians on stage and blends seamlessly with their various playing styles. She is sensitive and encouraging, and I love taking lessons from her!”

Jessica Mulhollem, Scottish smallpipes student

“Rosalind is an absolutely wonderful instructor! She teaches the bassoon to our 12 year old son, and is very patient and perceptive, giving him achievable goals and positive feedback. Since he's a beginner, she focuses on important issues like posture, fingering techniques, and what to practice, with a great summary sent out over email at the end of each lesson to help us remember it all. It's also always a treat for me to hear a bit of her playing at the lessons, as it's lovely, and provides a great example for a student to aspire to. Our son is improving rapidly with Rosalind's support, and I don't hesitate to recommend her lessons to anyone!”
